

The Cumberland Valley District Health Department is governed by the
Cumberland Valley District Board of Health with members
representing each of the five counties within the district.
Each county also has a separate board of health.
According to the Administrative Policy and Procedures Manual
for Local Health Departments the functions
of the district and local boards of health are :
District Board
~ setting local policy;
protecting the interests of the people; establishing objectives; evaluating
local health department operations; appointment of Health Officer/Public Health
Director; assessing the administration of the local health department; and
promoting integrity, credibility, and professionalism of the local health
department in the community.
County Board
(within a district) ~ membership on the county public health
taxing board; preparation of the annual public health tax resolution; and
trusteeship of the county public health tax (where applicable); maintenance and
upkeep of the county health center building(s); determining the use of the
facility by community groups and agencies; relaying to the district board
specific public health needs and concerns which may be unique and/or
particularly acute within the community.
