

Environmentalists are responsible for inspection of restaurants, grocery stores, vending machines, food, beverage and bakery warehouses; boarding homes, motels and hotels, mobile home and recreational vehicle parks, youth camps and schools; consumer products and private water; septic tank installation and septic tank cleaning vehicles.
The Cumberland Valley District Health Department Board of Health requires all persons working in food service establishments to have a food handler card. This includes waitresses, dishwashers, as well as the employees handling/preparing food in kitchens.
Personnel with a valid Food Manager’s Certificate such as Serve Safe are still required to have a Food Handler’s certification card from the Cumberland Valley District Health Department.

Programs are offered on rabies, rodent and nuisance control;
frozen food locker inspection, raw agricultural sampling; radon, confinement
facilities, swimming areas and emergency disaster services. Environmental staff
often work in cooperation with state and federal agencies in EPA related
programs.
